The World of the Decotora

Check out Masara Tatsuki's photographs of the almost 10 years he spent amongst the Decotora, Japanese truckers who elaborately ornament their trucks with lights.

In the accompanying interview Tatsuki says "People are surprised that I spent ten years on this project, but it simply takes time to really understand something. And I wanted to really understand the things I wanted to express. That is why it took so long."  How wonderfully indulgent. Makes you wonder what project you would be willing to invest 10 years in doesn't it?

Carl Warner's Surreal Foodscapes

I'm loving photographer Carl Warner's surreal still life foodscapes which feature fantastical worlds created from vegetables and fruit.

Art Deco Glory

Open House again. This is one of a series of photographs of the Art Deco interior of the wonderful old Daily Express building on Fleet Street (the paper relocated to the south bank many years ago) by Ayres No Graces. If you want to find out more, City of Sound kindly wrote up their visit to the building in 2003 here and the V&A profiled it here as part of their Art Deco exhibition in the same year.

Moo Sticker Books

Stickers_shot_2 Those creative printing types at Moo have started doing these lovely vinyl sticker books. Pocket size, they hold up to 90 stickers which can be based on your own photographs or on images that they kindly provide for you.

Some people on Fickr have been sharing images of their completed sticker books here and here.

One guy has created a sticker book from photos he has taken of the upholstery of the London tube trains.

Someone else has had a go at making stickers like pin badges which contain random words with different typographic treatments.

However, as with the Moo minicards I think they are just a tad too small to display photographs well. Come on Moo, print me some bigger stickers.

Day and Night from Space

Just added to my Flickr favourites.

This photograph was taken by the crew on board the Columbia during its last mission, on a cloudless day (remember them, no me neither?).

Half of the picture is in night. The bright dots are the cities lights.

Keeler at The Establishment

I just came across the contact sheets for the iconic 1963 photo of Christine Keeler taken at the height of the Profumo affair by Lewis Morley. The shoot took place at The Establishment, a club partly owned by Peter Cook. The famous image was apparently the very last one they took that day (top right).

Via: The V&A Museum. The chair, a thinly-masked Arne Jacobsen copy which has since been signed by Morley, is in the V&A collection. The original photograph and the contact sheets are in the National Portrait Gallery but are sadly not on display.
